The latest outing from the team at Google is the new Quick Search Box, released today as a sort-of spiritual successor to the wildly popular Quicksilver. It’s being dubbed a “Developer Preview”, but after using it for a better part of the day launching apps, searching for documents, and more, I have no issues to report.
A lot of interesting new features are being promised for future releases including a robust plugin system, contextual search and more. If the plugin system is well documented, I’m sure developers will flock to this search utility as they did to Quicksilver before it.
It’s a great little app weighing in at a mere 8.4MB and has a very slick, simple interface. The preferences allow you to choose what sources to search within and all the usual suspects are included: Address Book, Applications, Home Folder, Music, and more.
