Yesterday afternoon was supposedly when Microsoft was going to offer the free Windows 7 Beta download to all interested parties for testing. Throughout the afternoon I checked back at their site waiting for a download link to appear but all I kept receiving was a message saying “Check back in the afternoon for more information”. Then last night I get this cheery greeting on their page:
Thanks for your interest in the Windows 7 Beta. The volume has been phenomenal—we’re in the process of adding more servers to handle the demand. We’re sorry for the delay and we’ll re-post the Beta as soon as we can ensure a quality download experience.
I checked regularly and never once saw a link to download appear. I think Redmond is trying to pull a fast one on me, just swapping one message for another at an arbitrary point in time. I’ll give them until the weekend’s over to get the links up and running for the common folk, then I’ll take matters into my own hands.
