Osfoora for Twitter Review

Osfoora for Twitter Review

Let's face it: the Twitter for Mac app has been abandoned. It's so outdated it doesn't even support Twitter's own image upload service which was launched back in August. While there are new alternatives popping up every day, Osfoora really caught my eye and based on its success on iOS, I decided to take it for a spin. The good news is that it's a really nice Twitter client that I'll use for a while. The bad news is that it has a few things that need to be fixed before it can truly supplant Twitter for Mac as my go-to app.

Final Cut Pro X.0.3

Final Cut Pro X.0.3

Apple released the 10.0.3 update to Final Cut Pro X today, bringing back a slew of features that many professionals felt were absent from the initial release last summer. Here's a brief overview of what's new and why it's important.

Create a Bootable Lion Disk or Drive

I recorded a quick two minute screencast last night detailing how to create a Lion boot disk to speed up the install process and also easily install on multiple Macs. Enjoy!

iOS-ification

iOS-ification

I’m frankly a little shocked at what people believe to be true about the seventh major version of OS X, Lion. Just skim over some of the comments posts over at GigaOM and you’ll read phrases like “not a proper OS”, “iOS UI”, “App Store download restraints”, and “dumbing down” thrown about. Comments of this caliber really got me thinking: how did these people come to be so totally misinformed?

FCPX: Out with the Old, In with the New

FCPX: Out with the Old, In with the New

I felt compelled to write this this short post based on the reviews I’ve been reading about the recently released Final Cut Pro X from Apple. Having used Final Cut Pro since version 3, which was a time before it came with the rest of the Studio (Motion, Soundtrack, Color, Compressor and at times Livetype and Cinema Tools) and set me back $1200, I feel like I’m in a position to comment on some of the vitriol running around the web and, in particular, in App Store reviews.

Thanks, Apple!

Notational Velocity Review

Notational Velocity Review

My brain runs at about a mile a minute—I quickly move from topic to topic and if I lose a good idea in the process, it’s likely gone forever. Just in the course of writing this intro I’ve downloaded three podcasts, checked into a syntax highlighter for my code editor, fired up Motion and rendered a sequence, and opened my RSS reader. Consequently, I began a quest for a simple note taking software that would allow me to jot down a bunch of ideas, style them minimally, and then move right along to the next one. I scoured for a solution, what I assumed would be a tabbed text editor, and ended up with something much more than I could have imagined.

Putting the iPad 2 Resolution in Perspective

Putting the iPad 2 Resolution in Perspective

I threw together a quick diagram illustrating just how high the purported iPad 2 resolution really is. If these reports are to be believed, I have no doubt that it will be the most beautiful display on the face of God’s green Earth.

How Do 99 Cent Rentals Not Work?

How Do 99 Cent Rentals Not Work?

I’m curious as to how executives like Jeff Zucker from NBC and Philippe Dauman from Viacom believe that 99 cent television rentals won’t work for their content. Zucker says things like  ”We thought it would devalue our content” and Dauman said “We value our content a lot [...] We don’t think Apple has it quite right yet.”

Bulletproof OS X Installation & Backup

Bulletproof OS X Installation & Backup

As you may know, I recently purchased a brand new 15″ MacBook Pro that I am completely enamored with. Despite its raw power and ample hard drive space, I wanted to ensure that this machine stays as lean as possible in the event of catastrophic loss of data. Here’s my triple fail-safe process of setting up a new Mac, from start to finish.
